Live, Laugh, Dance

Live, Laugh, Dance
6"x6" Ceramic Tile with Alcohol Ink

Life brings with it seasons.  Some are rough.  We must all come out of the rough, into the new.  Live, as if there is no tomorrow; because there may not be one.  Laugh, as if it will heal you; because it is good medicine.  Dance like you'll never stop,; because someday you may not be able to.  Do it all with your whole body, soul, and spirit.

Free to Be Me

"Free to Be Me"
20"x16" Original Oil on Stretched Canvas

Sometimes as an artist and probably in other areas of life as well, we tend to try to fit ourselves into a mold; one that we think we should fit into rather than the one that God made for us.  The other night, I was in a painting mood but had nothing in mind to paint.  I had nothing started so nothing to finish.  But I knew that I had to paint.  I took a canvas and squished out my favorite oil colors and began.  I just began to paint. I love painting dancers as I imagine myself dancing before the Lord.  I didn't grow up dancing like many other girls, and my body isn't quite the ballerina type.  But sometimes, in my studio, all alone I dance.  I've studied many photos of beautiful dancers and some are buried into my mind.  They are so free!  That's me, sometimes late at night in my studio.  Free.

I've been invited to feature my work in the http://www.theworshipstudio.org.  I think I'll start with this painting.  What do you think?

Alice Jo in progress

Got the eyes and lips in for initial washes.  Anxious to decide on the background.  Once I do the initial wash on that, I will be able to tell more about the other.  So far, I'm liking the way the newspaper is bleeding through to provide some shadow and depth.  Still don't know about the baton.  I think I will continue with it, and at the end, if it doesn't look right, I'll paint over it.  I love doing these.  This one is 22"x20" on canvas.  Very mixed media.

I've gotten the first layer of handmade collage papers down, and the initial wash of gauche for the skin tones.  Trying to decide whether the baton is going to be a distraction.

All of My Worship

This is a paper collage on canvas 11x14. I have a heart for worship dance, so decided to create this piece. The jewels reminded me of orbs that some people have seen . I wrote scripture and declarations all around the dancer. It was fun. It's for sale with proceeds going towards missions.
