Soul Hunt

 "4:19"
Oil and cold wax
Available
In Matthew chapter 4 verse 19 Jesus says come, follow me, And I will make you fishers of men. As I was painting on this piece today for the 30 and 30 challenge for January, I began adding some more layers of paint, and turned the painting and immediately I saw what looks like an image of a fish. I love it when something appears like that unexpectedly. So I begin to contemplate.   I began to meditate and I began to wonder what to do with this fish.  Our sermon series at church this month is so therapy. So isn't it fitting that Matthew 419 is just perfect for this painting? Not to mention that I love to dive and have seen many creatures as beautiful and colorful as this one. I hope you enjoy it.

RooRoo

RooRoo
Oil and cold wax
6"x6"
Available

This is another oil and cold wax and number four of the 30 and 30 paintings challenge. Can you find the Roo Roo?
I sure like this one.  Somehow, the colors  feel nice to me.  I love the texture and rhythm.  Love painting with no intention.

Giving Back

We all need to give back a little...  Uganda, Africa gave me so much the three years that I traveled there.  The heart of those people taught me so much.  The Spirit of God that reigns in people is so powerful, and resonates in my soul.  I'm doing this 16x20 watercolor in order to donate to raise funds for the children of Uganda.  Last year, my painting brought a nice amount of money, and I'm believing this one will, too.  I'll update the progress throughout the week.

Rejected

"Rejected"
16x20 Watercolor

This is number 17 of the 30 paintings in 30 days.  I enjoyed doing this guy, using a slightly different watercolor technique.  I usually paint wet on wet, but employed wet on dry paper, keeping the bead line wet.  I can't help but think that this poor guy is watching his sweet thing being taken by someone superior.  I didn't intend on painting this emotion, but there is something about the look in his eyes that just get me.  The ape family is very interesting to me, and I'm doing a little research along with this painting just to get to know them better.  Our here, in west Texas is not the place to find them.  I doubt we have any in our local zoo, either.  Maybe warm weather will require a little zoo trip to find out.  What do you think of him?  Does he have a story to tell?

Crossing Over #2

"Crossing Over"
14"x16"
Oil on Canvas

This is my Number 6 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  I'm calling it complete, and hope that it is.  I would like to dedicate it to all of those who have lost loved ones. For those loved ones that knew the Lord, crossing over is a beautiful experience!  May the love of Jesus and His Peace run like the river, right through your soul.

Motherhood

"Motherhood"
28"x24" Original Oil on Canvas

I think the Lord has been teaching me about layers and depth.   Layers of his love.  Layers and depth of spirituality.  Seems like I've spent the last few weeks observing layers and depth in everything from depths of oceans to clouds in the sky.  This painting is a good example of layers and layers of color.  There is no telling how many layers there are of transparent oils.  The white that I used is the most lucius, buttery paint I've ever seen.  It's made by Richardson.  It makes all the other tubes that I have take a back seat.  This has a feminine feel to it, and I'm calling it "Motherhood".  My son and daughter-in-law are expecting their second baby in the spring.  Somehow, this just reminds me of the miracle of motherhood.  What do you think of the colors?

All Encompassing Lion Of Judah

"All Encompassing Lion of Judah"
28x22" Oil on Canvas

I love to paint.  There are some that just really excite me, and some that are just more satisfying.  This one is one that stirs up such excitement in me!  I did the underpainting in acrylic about two years ago during a worship service.  I wasn't all that happy with it, and have just kind of looked at it in passing.  Yesterday, I decided to get it down and rework it.  This time I would use oils.  I've just discovered  my love for oils within the past two months after taking Nancy Medina's workshop.  My husband was a little leery of me reworking it.  I think he thought I would ruin it.  I told him that I felt like I had nothing to lose but canvas, so I began.  I painted intuitively, without a reference photo or anything.  I determined to use the paints that were left over on my palette.  I recalled some of the "rules" that Nancy imparted to me, and began to feel such excitement as the painting took shape and as I began to contemplate who the Lion of Judah is to me.  There aren't words, really.  He is my All.  He is the Beginning and the End.  He's the one that loves me and also fights for me. Do you know him?

Red Bay in Progress

In Progress
Red Bay
Acrylic on Canvas

I almost didn't make it!  This is number 20 of the 30 in 30, and posting a day late due to schedules.  I'm painting intuitively, and having fun doing it.  There is this beautiful place on the Island of St. Maartin, on the French side...called Red Bay.It's a great snorkel area if you can manage to tromp through the knee deep sand to get to the water.  There are lots of red bluffs and red rocks right up on the beach, so you get lots of wave movement.  On the other side of that bluff on the right is an oasis for adventurous types like us.  We floated our cooler over there and had the whole place to ourselves. There are beautiful swim throughs and places to get out of the waves.  We had plenty of "mermaid" encounters on the way over to the other side, I might add.  Let's just say that their beach attire is vastly different than ours.    I'll keep you updated with progress pics.

Invitation to a Lost Soul

"Invitation to a Lost Soul"
12"x12" Acrylic on Wooden Panel

This is number 17 of the 30 in 30 Challenge.  I'd planned to paint my puppy in watercolor today.  But,  I was contemplating  and grieving for a loved one that is living in such a dark place.  I began to ponder what it must feel like to be in that place, when I realized it must be like a body without a soul.  There used to be a soul....I instantly knew that I needed to paint that idea, not knowing how to do it.  I came home and began painting intuitively, asking Holy Spirit which color to use next, etc.  This is not my typical type of painting at all.  As I painted the emotions running through me were so strong.  Confirmation came when my hubby nailed the interpretation right on the head.

"To Him I Will Sing"

"To Him I Will Sing"
5"x7"
Alcohol Ink on Yupo

This is number 15 of the 30 in 30 challenge.   I'm sure having fun playing with these inks.  I am still dabbling with the acrylic inks also, but I think I like the alcohol best.  They dry a lot faster and you can remove ink after it is dried.  You can do the same thing with the acrylic, but it doesn't do as nice, and if you layer the colors it makes a mess.  Too pooped tonight to go into much detail.  I think tomorrow will be a detailed piece.

"I Await my King"

"I Await my King"
5"x7"
Alcohol Ink on Yupo

This complete number 13 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  I almost didn't make this deadline tonight.  I've been busy writing a talk for a Walk to Emmaus.  You know how it goes, things usually take longer than you thought.  I'm just about to the point of being done; the kind of done that you can poke with a fork!  I started to just skip a day and let it go, but decided to press in.  I'm glad I did.  You know, that's what Jesus wants us to do.  Press into Him.  It'll be worth it.  Then, you can really rest.

"Tristan in Watercolor"

"Tristan in Watercolor"
9"x11"

This is my number 12 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  I almost didn't make it!  This was start to finish in one sitting, and hot off the press.  When Tristan was here, he found my scarves, and proceeded to do all these head wraps like a pro!  I took lots of photos as he was wrapping and decided to do this.  The previous painting used the same reference photo, and I decided that it was so much fun, I would do one more realistic.  I like it.

"All Wrapped Up"

"All Wrapped Up"
11"x14"
Mixed Media

This is number TEN of the 30 in 30 challenge.  I couldn't wait to get this done!  I've wanted to do some real experimenting and this was it!  I collaged hand painted papers and book pages onto this watercolor paper.   I added moulding paste and stencils.  I wasn't sure I could make anything out of it, but pressed on through.  I discovered if I wanted my charcoal to adhere and yet be erasable, I needed to coat the whole thing in acrylic medium to begin with.  I proceeded using my grandson, Tristan Moya as my model.  He just loved taking my Ugandan wrap to make a head wrap.  I got lots of photo reference shots and will probably do more on this line.  This was really fun, because I didn't worry about making anything picture perfect.  I enjoyed the play on light and dark as wells as the hues used.  I even pulled in my red acetate overlay to check my values and make sure that I had a good variety.  Yay.  Lessons learned, coming into play.  I haven't gotten his feedback, but in real life it looks great.  More of these to come, I'm sure!

All Inked Up

"All Inked Up"
Acrylic Ink on YUPO
6"x6"
50.00

Number 7 of the 30 in 30 Day Challenge.  I'm still experimenting with acrylic inks on Yupo.  I'm finding that if you try to back over the first layer, it will completely lift the paint off!  The colors that I'm using are basic primaries, not so much mixing colors.  I think I like working with these inks, but prefer the alcohol inks for their blending and unpredictability.  The acrylic inks are not total predictable, but very workable with a brush.  I think the next time I play with them, I will experiment with some texture and see how they cover.

Going Bananas

"Going Bananas"
9x11
Watercolor on Arches 140# paper

This is number 17 of the 30 in 30 challenge.  It's almost finished.  Tonight, I was so tired and I hadn't yet painted today.  I determined to no bust the challenge.  So I took my little puppy out with me, to sleep at my feet and I began to paint.  I remembered Uganda, where I took the photo of this banana plantation.  Of coarse, I had to artsify the colors, but it was beautiful in natural colors.  So were the people that hosted us that morning for breakfast.  This was the place where the pastor's wife had been raised.  Can you imagine looking out your front door at this beautiful sight?  How about it it were a very primitive door?  Would it look the same to you?  How about if it were only a hut made of banana leaves?  Would it look the same to you?  The beauty of the Ugandan people is as beautiful and colorful as this painting.  They amaze me.  I learn so much from them each trip that I go.  It kind of puts things into perspective for me.  What's really important?  What do you see out your window?  Are you thankful?  Could you survive without it?

Going Bananas in the Primary Stages

"Going Bananas"
Primary Stages
Watercolor on paper
9x11 "

Well, this isn number 15 in 30.  I thought I would give up detail work....then I find myself back at it; inspired by a photo I took in Uganda, Africa of a Banana plantation right in the back yard of dear friends.  I decided instead of doing it in traditional colors, I would bend the rules again and do it in something a little more wild.  It will take a few days to complete this one.

Coat of Many Colors

"Coat of Many Colors"
11x14" Watercolor on Yupo

This is one of those survival paintings; an attempt at adding color to an  emotional day.  I did this same painting in more true colors previously.  This is our own homegrown rooster.  I think he's quite playful all decked out in his colors.  I'm sure enjoying Yupo and learning better all along as to how to use it.  It definitely has a mind of it's own! I hope you enjoy it!

Holy, Holy, Holy

The first painting is what I did after receiving a prophetic word...that I would go into the nations setting women free.  I painted it as an act of obedience.  After that, I did go.  I went to Guatemala and ministers to missionary women.  Then, I went to Africa and ministered to women.  Now I find myself questioning who I am really.  As an artist.  Who am I?  I reworked this canvas.  I find myself remembering:

Last year, some of my artist friends took an amazing art trip to Ashville, NC, to a prophetic art conference. Among the amazing things that we saw, were the beautiful colors of the changing of the guard with the trees. I remember taking so many pictures of the colors. I also remember sitting on the porch during a break time and hearing a group of people singing, "Holy, Holy, Holy", and it literally infiltrated throughout the mountains. It brought tears to my eyes, and still does. I would give a whole lot to get to go again this year, but seems I may have to wait another year. I loved the experience, the growth, and hearing those beautiful words. May they reign throughout the deserts of Texas as well. "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty"....

Lord, you are Holy.  Holy are you, that was, and is and will be to come.  Blessed is Your Name.  Holy are you.  God...the one who is.  The One that holds the water in the boundaries, and the stars in the sky.  The One that I adore.  You alone are God.  My heard sings to you, and you dance over me.  What a pair we are.  You and I.  I am so thankful that we are a pair.
